Iris Hertel: Restoration and conservation of a pole decoration made of bronze back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The present work deals with the conservation and restoration of a Near-Eastern pole-decoration made of bronze. The focal points were the removal of supporting and restoring materials which were applied in former restoration processes, the protection of the original material as well as to outline a concept for a new presentation of the piece. To determine the composition of the alloy, three different analytical methods were employed and compared. The exposed original fragments were pasted together with a methacrylate-based reaction resin. In the conceptional preparation of a forming foundation, 3D-measurement technologies with subsequent milling processes were used.
