Overview:

Abstract: The present work deals with two sculptures made of Carrara marble which are situated on the bridge “Schlossbrücke” in Berlin. The sculptures were examined by non-destructive and little-destructive methods, investigating their respective state of preservation. These analyses made it possible to identify the degree of deterioration of the two figures. The formerly applied preserving agents play a vital role in the process of disintegration. Different options to preserve the figures are discussed with regard to the planned conservation. Prominence was given to the claim to keep the sculptures at the original location. This request has to be put into question due to the poor condition of one of the two figures.
