Overview:

Abstract: The following paper examines a concept for preventive maintenance and preservation, which relates to the Löwenburg in the park of Wilhelmshöhe in Kassel. The fact that the Löwenburg is in a phase of restoration until 2015 offers many practicable and current links for the subject of my paper.
Due to the fact that the Löwenburg includes a large number of rooms, I limited myself to the ‘Perltapetenzimmer’ in the ‘Damenbaukomplex’, which will be dealt with representatively for the entire Löwenburg.
The ‘Perltapetenzimmer’ with its rich and valuable inventory, features a huge diversity of many different used materials and offers therefore a solid base for a complex and extensive examination.
The conditions of the surrounding field in the room will be registered with regard to the potential for damages of the inventory. Those results are used in order to develop the concept for preventive maintenance and preservation under terms of conservation for the interior inventory.
