Abstract: | This Thesis deals with the handling of a romanesque lime floor with figurative inlays of brick and slate. A fragment of this floor was recovered at the cathedral of Hildesheim (Lower Saxony) and dated in the period between 1000 and 1022 AD. The aim of this work was the presentation of this fragment at the cathedral museum under constant climatic conditions. Besides drawing up the art-historical background of the floor and carry out scientific inquiries of the used materials, a conservation concept was developed. Tuned to a future presentation at the Museum climatic conditions had to be specified for preventing a further spread of microbial infestation. Following this thesis the object was restored by the author. |
