Abstract: | Subject of this thesis is the portrait "Friedrich II., König in Preußen", 1743, by David Matthieu, which shows a probably complete or almost complete original condition. The main intent has been the preservation of this character. After the documentation of technique and condition, the concept of conservation/restoration and the description of the tasks performed follows. In the second part the usage of multilayered grounds and preparatory coats in the early 18th century is investigated and a relationship to Antoine Pesne and David Matthieu is established. |
