Overview:

Abstract: Tasks were the examination, conservation and restoration with regard to the display in the collection of medieval sculpture of the GNM. The huge amount of decoration-techniques in the polychromy is remarkable. These are metal-leaves with different lacquers, various pressed brocades, decorated borders with pastiglia/pressed masses, spread materials as well as punched applications on garments. Support and polychrome painting were consolidated, the surface cleaned and a darkened, dirt-binding coating was removed. Small completions and a reserved retouching shall harmonize the surface.
