Abstract: The object of this diploma thesis is a canvas painting of Maximilian I. Joseph, painted by an unknown artist and provided by the Mainfränkisches Museum Würzburg. The objective of the work is to present the poorly preserved and fissured painting in a visual finished condition. The theoretical part deals with the discussion of the threat tears in preparation for the lining. The practical part comprised the documentation of the artistic technique, the state of conservation, the conservation and restoration concept and the realised measures.
