In this diploma thesis is the examination, conservation and restoration of the canvas painting "Man with ruff" from the Rostock Cultural History Museum described. Several treatments of the canvas and a varnish removal were necessary. Another topic is the research on a possible artist, the dating and the origin. Accordingly, the painting was painted in the late 16th century, south of the Alps. The artist remains unknown. The reflections on a matching frame are another part of the work.
