Abstract: | Subject of the present Bachelor-Thesis are two Faience vases with double handles and a blue décor, belonging to the handcraft collection of the Thuringian state museum Heidecksburg in Rudolstadt. The vases were crafted 1725 in the faience manufactory Dorotheenthal. They were donated to the church of Großliebringen by Johann Christian Bergmann, the then owner of the manufactory. With their rich foliage and strap-work décor, the vases are a representative example for the products of the manufactory of Dorotheenthal. The blue décor originated from the faience painter Johann Christoph Alex. Next to research regarding the object’s history and current condition, the main part of the developed conservation proposal is the reconstruction of the missing parts, with a particular attention to the extent in which the former visual qualities are to be restored. Principal aim is the future possibility of a combined presentation of the pair of vases, which currently is not given due to the extensive material loss. The implementation of the conservation proposals was begun during the preparation of this thesis and shall be finished following the latter’s completion. |
