Abstract: | The polychromatic wooden sculptures Aaron and Moses are part of the art collection „Städtische Kunstsammlung Zwickau”. 2010 the collection will be adapted and modernised. Therefore, the figures Aaron and Moses, which were preserved in the magazine of the museum as yet, are to be presented within the rearranged collection. In the past, the sculptures were modified several times. The original paint layers are mainly extant. The conservation and restoration should consider the way of conservation and restoration from the established collection of the museum. Possibly, similar examples of sculptures, pulpits and altars can offer valuable clues to the origin and age determination. Also investigations in regard to woodcarving, the way of painting and designing sculptures during the century of Mannerism in Germany were conducted. |
