Abstract: | This thesis addresses the investigation, conservation and restoration of the polychrome gravestone of the Zeller family (1520), which was kept outside until the 19th century. The first part is devoted to the origin of the object, its description and cultural and historical background. Furthermore, an overview of its material composition and state of preservation is given, which is clarified by scientific analyses. The focus of the conservation lays on the cleaning of polychrome stone objects which were originally kept outdoors. Finally, a concept describes measures for the preparation of the tombstone for the permanent exhibition in the museum. A homogeneous and well-groomed appearance should be achieved by the developed treatment. |
