Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: This dissertation aims at the preservation and restoration of a horse bridle, consisting of an iron bit and silvery, copper-alloyed and gilt rivets and fittings, from the Merovingian era. These burial offerings of the late seventh century were found at Vaihingen-Enzweihingen, Bad-Wuerttemberg in 1987. The analysis of the documentation, which was made during the excavation precedes the documentation of the restored finds. This is followed by the results of several examinations carried out on the objects, and results of examination concerning the technology of individual parts. Then different methods, applied in the restoration of archaelogical objects, including a test using Lasertechnology to uncover archaeological objects made of iron are discussed. The documentation of the preservation and restoration work is followed by typological examination leading to reconstruction attempts of the bridle. In conclusion, information is supplied concerning the storage and presentation of the finds.
