Monica Agrizzi: THE MULTI PIECED RELIEF OF SIGISMUND, ARCHDUKE OF AUSTRIA FROM THE TIROLER LANDESMUSEUM FERDINANDEUM (1489). Investigation and conservation under consideration of former treatments back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: This thesis addresses the conservation and restoration of the multi pieced, polychrome relief
(1489) made from a porous limestone from Mittenwald (Germany), showing the code of arms
of Sigismund, archduke of Austria. The Artefact is part of the collection of the the Tiroler
Landesmuseum Ferdinandeum. The focus of the treatment is on the removal of different
substances and residues of substances, originally applied as consolidants and/or
retouchings during, previous restorations. These blur the formal details and the colour of the
polychromy still present. An adequate cleaning method has to be established. The same
should also be analytically verifiable and guarantee an improved appearance of the artefact.
