Abstract: | Subject of this paper ist the examination of the main portal of the church St. Cyriakus located in Duderstadt. First the materials of the portal, mainly the paint layers and the stone support carrying the paint, and their condition were investigated and documented. The main focus of the investigation lays on the polychromy. After a non-destructive examination, material samples were taken from selected areas, on which scientific investigations were carried out in the laboratory. The aim was to determine the stratigraphy of the paint layers and the materials used, mainly the pigments and the binders. |
