Abstract: | The wall paintings in the inner area of the church of the St. George monastery in Voroneţ, Rumania, show a big area with pink bacterial infestation. The extensive use of bee wax-made candles and votive smoke from the daily (orthodox) liturgy has resulted into continuous stress due to the smoke gases/burning-products deposited on the walls and arch surfaces. Investigations focused on the bee wax, votive smokes, and soot with reference to the importance (for the bacteria), of room climate, calcium nitrate, calcium sulphate, and of harmful effect of the bacteria. The choice of the reference area represents the grounds for a long term monitoring of the bacterial infestation. The results of biocide treatments in the laboratory and on the test areas in the monastery led to the development of a restoration proposal regarding bacteria. |

Zusammenfassung in rumänischer Sprache: Rezumat: Pictura bisericii Sf.
