Abstract: | The Reassembly of Separated Altarwings to a Liturgical Usable Altarpiece with the Example of the “Crucifixion Altar” of Treis Using the example of the gothic altarpiece of Treis, this study deals with formerly double-sided altarwings which were sawed through and their reassembly for liturgical use. First a historic summery of the separations of altarwings was given and typical damages caused by separations were described. Some examples of rejoined panels and some own concepts of assemblies were represented. The wings of the altarpiece of Treis were mounted together by a system of frames in which each panel was framed separately. The connection between the two framed halves of a wing works by hinges and screws. Now, the panels can be used as an altarpiece again. |
