Abstract: | This dissertation deals with the analysis, conservation and restoration of old peruvian copper bells, which are subject to chloride corrosion. They exist in combination with mineralised and non-mineralised textile remains. Based on a discussion about the possibilities of removing the corrosion without damaging the metal surface, laser technology is tested as an alternative to mechanical cleaning methods. The sensitivity of the textile fibres in relation to the laser radiation are examined as well. In the following restoration the volatile binding agent cyclododecane is used to temporarily consolidate the textile material for the process of mechanical cleaning and to make it hydrophobic during the following inhibition of the active chloride-corrosion in a benzotriazole-bath. |
