Ulrike Maier: Integration of flaws on classical, not covered marbles displayed in museums as well as examples and evaluation of selected supplementary materials back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The treatment of flaws in classical not covered marbles has existed for a long time. For centuries supplementary repairs were connected with considerable losses of the original substance. But nowadays attention is focused on the historical form with its accepted additions and the aesthetic impact of the work of art when flaws are treated. The supplementary repairs are presented and examined on the basis of special examples taken from the Antikensammlung der Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin, Preußischer Kulturbesitz. According to the principles that should be employed when missing parts are replaced, a personal evaluation of this method is made.
The supplementary material used for marbles kept inside museums has to meet certain requirements. The qualities of selected materials are examined and assessed, under special consideration of their light resistance.
